The Middle Class - how important are we to Washington by Harold Jones Feb 26, 2007 In today's economy the middle class has to work harder and harder to maintain momentum on the path to the American dream |
|
The middle class of today is working more, saving less and shouldering the ecomomic burdens of our "growing ecomomy". Middle-class families are often in a no-win situation. making too much to qualify for federal aid programs, and yet they don't earn enough to take advantage of retirement savings plans or tax cuts on dividend income. If we "the middle class" were to organize and make our voice heard, we would be a force to reckon with. Not only do our votes count but so do our dollars - and we need to get Washington to get behind the working families of America. Ideas that help the middle class could include: 1. Sliding Scale Financial aid - for college 2. Sliding Scale supplemented services like daycare 3. Low Interest small business loans 4. Tax Breaks for families taking care of elderly parents Just to name a few. These types of things CAN be done in washington and will be if we make ourselves heard - by emailing our representitives and calling for a "middle-class" platform with a political agenda. We are the backbone of this country - we work the hardest and pay the most, its time we get the representation we require- not just lip service from politicians who claim to be for the American family. |
